Resident Chef — Christine Wendland
Chef Christine Wendland began her journey at Fernbrook by a chance encounter with Jeff Tober, a local New Jerseyan who began Fernbrook’s CSA in 2007. After joining the CSA herself, Christine’s dedication to organic, sustainable and local cuisine flourished. Christine went on to study at The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, graduating first in her class and with high honors. She spent one growing season at Fernbrook CSA as a work share participant, while working in top restaurants in Philadelphia and the Jersey Shore. In 2014, she came on as Resident Chef of Fernbrook Farms, garnering a following for her simple, yet elegantly rustic seasonal cuisine. Christine has also worked with artisanal cheese production, hearth bread baking, and has even had a brief stint as a chocolatier! She brings all of these facets to her work, both at The Inn serving weddings and events, and in the Farm Shop, where her tasty wares are sold to the public. She shares her farm family with her real family, husband Sean and daughter Colette, and their menagerie of rescued pets.
Event Coordinator — Kathy Newman
“How lucky am I to plan parties for a living”, a quote you will often hear from Kathy. A native to New Jersey, much of her childhood was spent at her family home in Barnegat, NJ – fishing, water skiing and crabbing. She loves running, dark chocolate, the ocean, traveling, playing piano, and spending time with her son, Jack. With a BA from the Philadelphia College of Art, numerous years of experience in the Catering and Event Planning Industry, including having had her own café and off premise catering business, it became clear that her true passion was food and planning for friend and family gatherings. Today she keeps that passion alive by creating unforgettable moments and actualizing dreams not only for brides but for everyone who falls under the spell of Fernbrook Farms.
